Score!!! I got a camera!

I just thought I would throw this out there because I am pumped! I just got a nikon coolpix 5400
i know its not top notch but i am broke. it was only $117 and it came with a 256 compact flash and a card reader for free. I am pretty sure it holds compact flash and SD cards for saving my picture as jpegs and RAW's

Still Photography, to me that is...

I don't think there is one single thing that makes still photography so powerful, it is different from one person to another. What really hits home for me is the simple fact that a still picture is like a piece of time. That moment captured on a camera will never happen again. Surely something could be reenacted but, no matter how hard one may try it will never be the same. I distinctly remember an image back from one of the photo classes I took back in high school where a man is in mid step of walking off a dock of some sort into the water. Seriously, one or two more inches and this mans foot would of been in the water. So a person may look at this picture and think nothing of it, it is just a man about to fall into the water right? Well that is correct but, there is far more to image than just the picture itself. When I saw this photograph I saw the before and after of the image. I realized that the second after this still photo was taken so many things would change. Obviously the man would be submerged under the water, the dock would be wet, there would be ripples in the water. With the photograph it was like the photographer had caught the exact moment of silence between peace and chaos. A still photo has the power to hold on to something that without it would be forever lost.

Well I am not quite sure whether I made myself sound very sane or not, but that is still photographies power to me

Expectations for the course

Let's see here, what do I want to get out of this course? Well first of all it would be great to learn the ins and outs of Lightroom it looks like a pretty interesting program . Secondly I would like to brush up on my photoshop skills, it has been too long since I had last used it. also I would like to get a better grasp on my critiquing skills for others work as well as my own. Finally though I want to learn more about the power of my macbook and other apple products we use!
